High-tension wire electrocutes pregnant woman, NDLEA staff, others in Rivers – Converseer
OKRIKA (CONVERSEER) – A high-tension wire from an electric pole has killed one pregnant woman, a staff of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and four other people in Okrika, Rivers State.
According to The Nation, the incident happened at about 1:12 AM on Monday.
The high-voltage wire cut and fell on a residential building, instantly electrocuting its occupants and setting the structure ablaze.
Eyewitnesses said the victims had no chance of escape as the electrical surge spread rapidly, torching the building and destroying properties estimated to be worth millions of naira.
Authorities in the area have since begun assessing the damage, while residents are calling on the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company and other relevant agencies to urgently investigate the cause of the cable collapse and ensure such a tragedy does not repeat itself.
At the time of filing this report, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) is yet to release a statement in this regard.
